ON FISTULA ICE BUCKET CHALLENGE

ICE Bucket Challenge

EXIM Bank Tanzania Board Chairman, Mr. Yogesh Manek on Sunday did the ice bucket challenge on Sunday, in support of the fistula campaign in Tanzania, after being nominated by the Managing Director of Airtel Tanzania Mr Sunil Colaso.

Before being bathed in ice water Mr. Manek nominated Ali Mafuruki, Chairman and CEO of Infotech Investment Group, Shabir Abji, Chairman of New Africa Hotel and Veena Jog, Managing Director of Advent Constructions Ltd to take part in the challenge in an effort to save Tanzania women who suffer from fistula. 

Speaking shortly before taking on the challenge Mr. Yogesh Manek said he has been moved to accept the challenge following the number of lives that are lost and disabilities created by the disease; more particularly since this was very well blended with ‘Exim Go Green’ initiative.  Water for good use!

“I thank Mr. Sunil Colaso, the MD Airtel Tanzania, for nominating me to this challenge which I wholly accept with great honor because I know that my participation will save lives and help in having a fistula free Tanzania. According to available data more than 8000 women die from fistula, 160,000 disabilities created and over 40,000 children below the age of one (1) year die from this curable disease,” he said.

He mentioned that Exim Bank has been at the forefront in supporting to the cause of women, a reason why the fistula campaign is timely and relevant. 

“Exim Bank has been supporting different community development projects, especially in the health, environment and education sectors.

“This has been exhibited by a number of community initiatives we have done recently, including donating mattresses to Mwananyamala hospital, construction of a lavatory facility for Kilakala primary school (for girls) and actively participating in cleaning exercises across the country, towards a cleaner environment.    

“And today, I take this Ice Bucket Challenge to show our commitments as a bank into a continued support to such initiatives,” said Mr. Manek.

He mentioned that all Exim Bank employees have been very supportive toward the ice bucket challenge which has been initiated for a good course.

“We couldn’t be more thrilled with the level of compassion, generosity and sense of humor that employees are exhibiting as they take part in this impactful initiative,” said Mr. Manek.

Mr. Manek reiterated, that the activity is also aimed at promoting employees and other corporate figures engagement in corporate social responsibility activities that the bank tend to initiate from time to time for the sake of helping in upgrading different social-economic sectors in the country.
