EXIM BANK SUPPORTS MWANANYAMALA
HOSPITAL MATERNITY WARD

HOSPITAL MATERNITY WARD

Exim Bank Tanzania marked mother’s day by donating 60 mattresses to a maternity ward at Mwananyamala Hospital in Dar es Salaam to show its respect to all mothers and also to complement efforts to improve maternal health in the country.
So far, Mananyamala which is a major referral hospital in Dar es Salaam serves an average of 3100 expectant mothers in a month, while it has only 136 beds and beddings for the maternity ward.

Speaking during the handover ceremony held at the hospital premises at the weekend, Exim Bank Assistant Marketing Manager Anita Goshashy said the donation is part of implementation of their Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) activities to the community.

“Last year, Exim Bank’s profit hit a mark of TZS 20 billion, and we normally have a culture of returning back what we get to the community. Now, today we are here in Mwananyamala to handover these items as a way of recognizing our mothers and also to demonstrate our commitment to respecting our Corporate Social Responsibility spirit,” Ms. Goshashy said, adding that the bank will continue support the community on health, environment and education.

Mwananyamala Hospital Chief Medical Dr. Sophinias Ngonyani lauded the bank for its support, adding that it came at the time of need and urged other financial institutions as well as other Corporate companies in the country to borrow a leaf.

“On behalf of the entire Mwananyamala Hospital community, I would like to express my sincere gratitude for a well thought move to donate these beddings to be used by mothers whom we all value in our lives. The donation will be of great help to the Mwananyamala community,” Dr. Ngonyani said

Dr Ngonyani said as much as the government tries to equip public health institutions, its efforts has not totally alleviated shortages of various equipments in these hospitals, hence there is need for other stakeholders, especially in the corporate world to come in and complement such efforts in order to transform health sector in the country.

“I congratulate you for implementing your corporate social responsibility policy. My request to the bank is that we are still facing challenges as a referral hospital, I urge you never to be tired of contributing to this life saving sector,” Dr Ngonyani added.
